Two More Book Reviews: What Alice Forgot & The Last Letter From Your Lover

October 8, 2014

I recently read two (fiction) books about memory loss. I enjoyed both but if you only feel like reading one book about memory loss, I highly recommend What Alice Forgot. I absolutely loved it and read it in just a couple of days. And when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it.

What Alice Forgot is about a woman who passes out during spin class and when she wakes up she thinks it’s 1998; it’s actually 2008. Alice has completely forgotten the last ten years of her life, which includes a lot of important events. The past ten years have drastically changed Alice as a person; you follow her struggle as she figures out who she has become and tries to put all the pieces of the last ten years together.

It’s funny and light-hearted but really makes you think about how you can change over time.

If you LOVE memory loss, you can read two books about it! The Last Letter From Your Lover was good but not nearly as good and entertaining. This one takes place in 1960 and is about a woman who is in a car accident and has forgotten everything that has happened in her entire life, including who she is, who her husband is, etc etc. The book spans many years; in 2003 a journalist comes across the letters between the woman who lost her memory and a secret lover and does some investigating.

Jojo Moyes is the author, the same woman who wrote Me Before You, which I loved; I’d recommend that over this one.

In other book news, Lauren Conrad posted a Fall reading list and a lot of these sound great; will have to check them out!
