Get More Sleep: Week 1

August 11, 2014

I’m one week into my Get More Sleep Action Plan. So far I’m doing pretty well. I haven’t gotten the lights out every night by 10:30pm but I’m getting pretty darn close. In the past seven days I’ve fallen short of seven hours of sleep only twice (for me, that’s pretty good). Those nights were about six and a half hours of sleep.

I find it helpful to wear a fitness and sleep tracker to be mindful of how many hours of sleep I’m getting each night (currently using Runtastic Orbit but have also used the Jawbone Up, both track sleep).

The main reasons I’ve fallen short on sleep is not turning off the TV early enough. Last night I got back from my girls weekend around 6:30pm so by the time I unpacked, got my stuff ready for Monday’s early spin class, ate dinner and so on, it was late and then of course MM turned on House Hunters and how could I leave in the middle of an episode? Would they choose the new brick house or the older house with character? I HAD TO KNOW. But then it was 11pm and I was still sitting on the couch. This coming week I’m going to try to get the TV off earlier, jump into bed for some reading and call it a night.

Just came across this interesting article, worth a read if you’re considering an earlier wake-up time (i’m not as 5:45am is early enough for me, thank you very much): What Happened When I Woke Up Two Hours Earlier for a Week
