Healthy(ish) 4th of July Sips & Sweets

June 30, 2014

The 4th of July is this weekend and I’m looking to celebrate in a healthy way. I’ve been scouring the internet to find healthy recipes and am ready to share a few of the most promising treats. I’m going to try a few of these and while they start out pretty healthy I’ll likely do a couple of extra substitutions to further cut calories and sugar (stevia instead of sugar, seltzer instead of soda, more fruit added, almond milk instead of dairy, etc).

You’ll notice I’ve only focused on desserts and drinks. Those are my weak points; I’m pretty good at keeping my main dishes healthy, especially for a holiday that involves tons of grilling. All I need to do is avoid the bread and chips and stick with grilled meats and veggies. But desserts and drinks, unless I come prepared there’s no way I can avoid all the deliciousness! Luckily, I think these recipes look amazing and I *hopefully* will have no problem forgoing other treats in favor of these:

Red, White and Blueberry Trifle (Skinnytaste)

Blueberry Strawberry Sangria (Tasty Trials)

Strawberry Creamsicles (PaleOMG)

Creme Filled Strawberries (Bakers Royale)

Red, White and Blue Popsicles (Eating Well)

Watermelon Rose Sangria (Eating Well)

Fruit Skewers (People)

Berry Bliss Rocket Popsicles (Family Fresh Cooking)

Lemon Fruit Tart (PaleOMG)

What is your healthy go-to recipe for the 4th of July?
