A Personal Walking Challenge + Fitbit Versa Review

November 14, 2018

Hey hey everyone. The last few weeks we’ve been moving into our townhouse and attempting to get organized and feel more settled. Everything is unpacked but this place definitely still needs some stylizing and decorating. Moving to a new city is tough and it’s a huge time of transition.

Over the past few weeks I haven’t been feeling my best, between living in chaos, to looking for a job to questioning why we moved to a city where we don’t know anyone (seriously…why?), it can be a lot. I know I’m feeling this way because the changes are all new and it’s just the beginning.

But also, I’m once again totally out of my routine. And something that I’m embarrassed to admit is that when I’m out of my routine, I tend to do a lot of sitting around. I’m trying to get out and explore but am balancing that with job hunting and attempting to not spend money (because of that whole, needing a job thing)–it isn’t so easy. Sure I take Ollie on his daily walks but I’ve noticed I’m sitting a lot more than I like.

Creating a Step Goal

One of the smallest but also most powerful things you can do for your health is to simply move your body.  During times of transition it can be easy to sit and mope around. By hanging at home a lot (and trying to figure out my life!), I’ve noticed that I’ve frequently been missing my step goal. I’ve been wearing a Fitbit for years and have my goal set to 14k steps daily.

So during this major time of transition and a time of money-saving, I’m focusing on my goal to consistently hit those 14k steps a day. It’s not necessarily a new goal, but previously it’s felt effortless to hit. When living in Europe I’d go on super long walks to explore and when I was working I was lucky enough to walk to work. Hitting 14k was pretty much a no brainer. While it’s more challenging now, if I focus on it, I can hit it. I’ll do this by longer walks with Ollie, light jogs around town and walking to explore my new neighborhood.

Fitbit Versa Review

Product Review: Fitbit Versa

And the way I track these steps is with my Fitbit Versa. I’ve gone through a lot of Fitbits over the years (probably 5+ versions), and this one is easily my favorite. I’m wearing the Rose Gold Special Edition Versa. In my opinion, the Versa is the most fashionable and has the sleekest design. It comes with a woven band and a sport band plus you can purchase additional bands, I’m currently wearing the mint band.

Beyond the actual look of the watch, the Versa shares tons of stats on-device thanks to a big and bright screen. This smartwatch gives the standard stats (steps, stairs, calories, heart rate, etc), and also tracks workouts, GPS tracks runs and is compatible a bunch of apps. It will also vibrate if you haven’t hit 250 steps per hour, a great reminder to get up and go on a mini walk. And if you’re a swimmer, I love that the Versa is waterproof and will count laps for you. Like other Fitbit’s it is great at tracking sleep too.

I’ve been wearing the Versa for about 5 months and I’m a huge fan. While I’m already an active person, it makes me more aware of staying consistently active each day. Even if you run 5 miles in the morning, it can be easy to then barely move the rest of the day (like if you’re at an office for 8+ hours daily). So even for the major workout crew, the Fitbit keeps you accountable in and out of the gym, which I love.

Do you have a step goal? What tips do you have to help hit it consistently?

Fitbit Versa Review

Full disclosure. I previously worked at Fitbit so I’m naturally a fan of the company and products, but I was actually a Fitbit wearer long before I worked there. My Fitbit was a gift thanks to my lovely coworkers and these opinions are 100% my own.
