Wedding Wellness: My Bridal Fitness Plan

Last week I filled you in on my healthy eating plans for the three months leading into our wedding, and now I’m giving you a peek into my fitness routine.

With our big move to San Francisco and figuring out my new way of life here, my workout schedule has been a bit all over the place. I love a solid and consistent routine. Back in New York I taught the same classes each week for nearly eight years. Talk about a routine! I also had Equinox just one block away, making my weekly workouts very consistent. Towards the end, especially when I knew we would be moving, the consistency started to get to me and I was excited to mix it up. Now that I’m in SF, it’s the time to do just that! I’m just beginning to explore the fitness scene here (there is a ton!) but have already found some places that I love.

As I put together my weekly goals, I aim to do a healthy mix of high intensity interval training (HIIT), barre and running. Barre tones and elongates muscles (more on that in Wedding Wellness Part II) and HIIT gives you a powerful calorie burn. While I think you could get away with just HIIT, I don’t think doing barre alone will give most people their desired results. Of course it depends on what your goals are, but getting your heart rate up is important to see changes.

For barre, I’ve been visiting SF’s Avant Barre. I’ll be sharing more details on this studio in the coming weeks. For HIIT, I do a combination of Orangetheory Fitness and Kayla’s BBG workouts at home. My schedule has a smattering of runs because it’s something I enjoy, it’s a great way to explore a new city, oh and I’m running a half marathon this weekend (Lululemon SeaWheeze in Vancouver!).

Stay Consistent & Believe in the Process

I’m a few weeks into this plan, aiming for 3 barre classes and 3 HIIT sessions a week. Sometimes it can be hard to see progress in yourself. It’s important to stick with your routine, stay the course, and if you work hard, overtime you will see changes. I didn’t bother investing in a scale here in SF and I rarely put on real clothes (workout clothes are now my wardrobe 95% of the time) so tracking progress is a challenge. But I’m sticking with it and believe that my hard work pays off.

Create a Schedule

If you are prepping for a wedding or just trying to get yourself into a fitness routine, I recommend putting together a calendar based on your schedule and goals. I like printing it out and highlighting items once they are done. You can message me or leave a comment below if you have questions or want guidance on building your calendar.

I’ll check in with you at the end of August and let you know how it’s going, along with a status of my clean eating (already having major chip cravings, but doing okay).
