Baby Must-Haves: Our 2 Month Favorites

baby must-haves

When I worked on my baby registry, I was instantly overwhelmed. There are SO. MANY. PRODUCTS! And each person has a different favorite. I tried not to go too crazy with my registry research and asked close friends for recommendations. Some products we love and feel like we couldn’t live without, others barely get used. It’s all a learning process.

And no matter how many people might love one product, if your baby doesn’t like it, well then that’s that. So before I jump into these favorites, I’ll say that every baby is different and you don’t know what yours will gravitate towards. Below are some of our favorites.

We have plenty of other products strewn about the house and it would take a long time to share my opinion on everything, so I’m sticking to these few items. These have been standout products that I use on the daily and are just a handful of favorites.  They are among our most-used items since we brought Millie home two months ago. If you want to see the rest of the items, you can view them on our registry HERE (if you have any questions on other items from our registry, let me know and I’ll be happy to share my opinion).

Baby Must-Haves: Our 2 Month Favorites

Baby Bjorn Bouncer: A bit of a high cost product but worth it if your baby likes it. Millie loves to sit in the bouncer and it allows me to get things done around the house while she bounces. It’s also easy to carry. We live in a two-story townhouse and I often bring it up and down the stairs. My favorite use is putting it in front of the shower so I can watch Millie and get my morning shower in, allowing me to feel human again (though lets be real, I’m covered in spit up approx 3 seconds after my shower ends).

The Ollie Swaddle (10% off with this link!): This is THE best swaddle out there. It is super simple to use and keeps baby secure. It’s incredible how easily babies get their arms out of swaddles and I’ve had the best luck with the Ollie. It’s on the pricier side as swaddles go but I do think it’s worth the money.

Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine: Part nightlight, part sound machine, this product is great to have in our bedroom. It gives off enough light (which is adjustable) for middle of the night feedings but doesn’t fully wake Millie up. It also offers various sounds at different volumes, controllable through your phone. Hatch recently launched a more advanced model that is Alexa enabled. I wish I could upgrade mine, but the OG is also a great item!

Aden + Anais Swaddle Set: These swaddles are adorable (available in a million designs) and have tons of uses. As a traditional swaddle, a blanket, a burp cloth (in desperate times), a stroller cover, etc. I love having these around the house to grab in a pinch.

Babyletto Toco Glider : I was on the fence about a glider. I heard some people love them, some people think they are unnecessary. I’m so glad we bought one and I basically live in it. It’s in our living room and I use it for nursing, rocking Millie, and just being comfortable. It is a MUST if you ask me. I like this particular glider because it’s not as big as many others. At $499 the price is pretty good. I had my eye on others that were over $1,000. As much as I would have liked one of those, this one is so great and didn’t break the bank.

Marpac Hushh Portable Sound Machine: And one more sound machine–this one for on-the-go. I didn’t know sound machines were so key for babies but they are. I use this one in the stroller or around the house (whereas the Hatch stays in our bedroom).

Snuggle Me: Another product I was on the fence about. A $150 pillow seemed unnecessary…but then I bought it and I love it! Millie takes daily (supervised) naps in the snuggle me and as far as I can tell, she thinks it’s very comfortable. You can’t leave a baby in it unsupervised but it’s perfect if she’s napping or just hanging out next to me on the couch while I do work or watch TV. It’s also great for taking cute pictures, don’t you think?

OXO Tot Perfect Pull Wipes Dispenser: Not a fun or exciting product, but something you need! Dealing with a dirty diaper is made easier with this wipe dispenser, we have two.

Taking Cara Babies: Not a product, but a course I recommend. Taking Cara Babies is an online sleep course, with options for 0-12 weeks, 3-4 months and 5+ months. I was gifted the 0-12 week course and loved it. It’s a series of online videos and PDFs. It took me 2 days to get through and I learned so much. I had been reading different sleep training ideas so I knew I a lot of the things Cara goes through, but her videos put them all together and showed me the real life way to incorporate them into my life. Watching her show the theories on real babies makes it much easier to understand than simply reading about the actions. I started the course at 8 weeks but I’d recommend other mamas read it while in their third trimester or week one of baby’s arrival.

Baby Connect App: I typically avoid apps you have to pay for, but go ahead and spend the $4.99 on this one. It helps you track nursing, sleeping, diapers, and tons of other things. We started by writing down when I nursed and all the diapers, which we quickly realized was not sufficient. This app keeps track of everything. Lots of life with a baby is timing. Millie nurses every 3 hours and we try to get her to nap after 60-90 minutes of being awake (which we learned in the above mentioned course!). This app makes it easy to stay on top of everything.

To quickly list a few more favorites: Baby Bjorn Ergo Omni 360 Carrier, Uppababy Vista + Mesa Carseat, Chicco Lullago bassinet, Lovevery Playgym (Okay, I’ll stop. See, it’s easy to get carried away–so many favorites!).

And there you have it, just a handful of favorite items. Have you used any of these products? What’s on your must-have list?

  • Hi Amanda!! Congrats on Millie! I’m pregnant and just starting to think about building my registry so I find blogger posts like this super helpful! I’m trying to decide between using babylist or just registering at Amazon and one other place like buy buy baby or target. Did you like babylist? was it user friendly for you and your friends/family purchasing? Most of my friends had their first baby before it was around so I would love to know what you think!

    • Thanks Maggie and congrats to you! Hope you’re feeling good! I really liked Babylist because it allowed me to add items from all sorts of sites (Buy Buy Baby, Amazon, Etsy, Crate & Kids, etc) instead of creating multiple registries. Also I wouldn’t have been able to add some of the items (like ones from Etsy) if I did it through Buy Buy Baby or Amazon. I would say it’s user-friendly enough, though has some kinks that could be made easier. I didn’t get any major complaints from people. Everyone figured it out! I did get a couple of items in the wrong color but I could exchange and it wasn’t a big deal. If you think your friends/fam might have trouble using Babylist I’d do two registries, one on babylist then a second on Buy Buy Baby or Amazon (something most people are used to). Hope this helps!
