10 Photos to Inspire You To Visit Cadaques, Spain

July 11, 2018

Europe is full of endless travel possibilities. Before moving to Spain I had all the big spots on my to-do list, but once I arrived I learned about so many smaller hidden gems. In our attempt to live like locals, we’ve been balancing the must-dos that everyone knows about with some of the hidden gems that locals recommend to us.

One we’ve heard a lot about is the Costa Brava in Spain, the coastal region of Catalonia in northeastern Spain. It’s the spot where locals spend their summer weekends (similar the Hamptons in NYC or Lake Tahoe in SF). Within the Costa Brava is Cadaques, a beautiful beach town about two hours north of Barcelona.

One summer weekend we rented a car and made the trip up to Cadaques. We spent one night and two days there and quickly fell in love with this cute town. If we were living in Barcelona I’d definitely want a vacation home in Cadaques (a girl can dream). The water is crystal clear, the white buildings and flowers are reminiscent of the Greek Islands, plus there’s great food, culture, and a relaxing vibe.

During our visit we mostly wandered around the town. We did a mini hike to a small beach cove, visited Salvidor Dali’s home and ate lots of seafood. If you’re one of my US friends, there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of Cadaques, so let me show you just a small taste of what this under the radar town has to offer.

As you can imagine, it’s kinda a weird place.

See all those little people? They hiked down to this secluded cove for some swimming. We joined them a few minutes later.
