Weekend Review & Race Week Look-Ahead

July 14, 2015

I had such an epic weekend. Friday night was THE BEST. I went to see taylorswift with 3 girlfriends and it was the greatest concert ever. Please excuse me while I fangirl. I don’t even like concerts (just not my thing) but this was just oh-so-fun. Tay put on a killer show, we sang along to every single song and danced to Shake it Off. It was the perfect way to kick off the weekend and if Taylor’s tour hasn’t hit your city yet, BUY TICKETS.

[and because I’m obsessed, here’s the J. Crew jumpsuit I wore to the concert. taylorswift do you approve?]

The one downside of the concert was that I didn’t get home until 2am, which made me exhausted for the rest of the weekend (I’m old.). On Saturday after a work event and passing out on the couch, I knew that I needed to get a run in. My marathon training plan called for 14 miles and between the heat and my exhaustion, I didn’t see that happening. I can only do those long runs first thing in the morning, not at 5pm. I decided to start running and see what happened.

Despite running in NYC and Central Park for years, I got lost! I decided to do a shortened CP loop, took a weird turn off the main path and oops, ran up the biggest hill in the park, in the opposite direction of where I meant to go. I wasn’t even mad, it added miles and gave me new scenery. In the end I ran 7 miles and was proud of it.

Sunday I woke up early and met up with Meaghan (who is doing the NJ tri next week!) for a 25 mile bike ride. When riding alone, the time crawls, but while biking with a friend it flew by. We did a loop of the park, a ride up the West Side Highway and then I finished it off with another loop, quickly went home, changed and went back into the park with MM for a 3.1 mile run. By the time we were running it was noon and super hot, perfect training for Sunday’s NYC Tri, a notoriously hot race.

And speaking of that Tri, yes! It’s just a couple of days away! This is my SIXTH time doing the NYC Tri, time flies. I absolutely love this race. It takes place basically  in my backyard (the start line is 2 blocks away!) and the energy is unbeatable. I’ve been so focused on the Ironman 70.3 that I’ve barely thought about this race, but now that it’s here I’m pumped. Riding on the West Side on Sunday got me extra excited. As gross as the Hudson is, I’m looking forward to jumping in!

This week I plan to take it easy, teach my classes, do a short swim, bike ride and run to get myself feeling good for when I hit the starting line. I’m keeping my meals extra clean to feel my best and will aim to get decent sleep (although isn’t that always my non-met goal)?

What do you do to prep for a race? Will I see any of you at the NYC Tri? Comment below and let me know!
