How Safe is Your Beauty? Get Toxin-Free Skincare with Beautycounter

June 30, 2015

I’ve always been conscious of what I eat, how much I workout and all the things I can do to be my healthiest self. One thing I’ve never given much thought to is what my beauty products are made of, which is strange because these are products I use every single day. The ingredients do matter. I didn’t start thinking about it until a friend introduced me to Beautycounter, Beautycounter’s mission is to get safe cosmetic products into the hands of everyone. I did a little digging on the brand and found that Lauren Conrad is a fan, if it’s good enough for LC, it’s good enough for me.

Want to hear a scary statistic? Europe bans 1,300 chemicals in its cosmetic products. The US bans 11. So what are we really putting on our skin every day? I won’t get science-y on you (mostly because science is not my strong suit), instead, here’s a quick video about why it’s so important to know what your beauty products are made of, plus what sets toxin-free Beautycounter apart. Now let’s talk about the products.

Going beyond safety, do these products work? I gave them a try and I quickly became a fan. I tend to spend the minimal amount of required time on my beauty routine but while testing Beautycounter, I put more time and energy into my AM and PM routine. Instead of just a quick use of face wash and lotion, I went through a 6-part process. This still only took a couple of minutes and at the end I felt like I just had a facial. My skin felt and smelled like I was coming out of the spa, think dewy glowing freshness. And let’s be real, I’m not 20 anymore and it is time that I put more focus on my skincare, it will make a difference in the years to come.

This was the routine: Routine Clean Cream Cleanser, Gentle Exfoliator Polishing Cream, Rosewater Uplifting Spray, Lustro Face Oil, Every Day Hydrating Cream, Any Time Eye Cream. A long list, but my skin felt magical after.

Beautycounter products are nicely packaged, smell good, feel light on your skin AND are toxin-free. That’s an all around win in my book.

The Rose Water Spray is one of my favorites, it feels extra decadent to spray this on your face, you instantly have that dewy feel. I wasn’t sure about using oil on my face for fear it would cause break outs but my skin felt smooth and light after using it, no breakouts in sight.

Now that we’ve talked about dangers in our beauty products, what do we do? I’m not at a place where I’m going to dump all of my products and start fresh, but I am integrating Beautycounter products into my routine. I haven’t yet tried their makeup and I’m sticking with what is currently in my cosmetic bag, but I am swapping out some of my cleansers and lotions for Beautycounter. Every little change counts and I hope over time my routine continues to move towards being completely toxin-free.

If you’d like to give Beautycounter a try, here’s a link to see the latest and buy (with Beautycounter you can purchase through a consultant so please use my friend Julie Dretler!). Let me know what you think!
