Monday Morning Forgetfulness: Drugstore Beauty Binge

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I always pack my gym bag before going to bed when I have an early class in the am. Unfortunately, even with evening planning, I can still be forgetful and things get left out of my gym bag. Not sure what’s going on, but I’ve really been off my game recently (in the past month I’ve forgotten makeup twice, my bra and underwear, whoops!). Since I don’t typically have time to head home after the gym before work, I’m pretty much stuck as-is for the day.

This morning was the second time this month I forgot my makeup and while I don’t wear tons of it, I definitely need some to look awake. Instead of going bare for the day, I decided to make a quick trip to Duane Reade and buy the essentials, which from now on will stay permanently in my gym bag. Admittedly, I didn’t make all the best decisions this morning and it seems like DR will take back used makeup so I’ll be keeping some and exchanging others. Here’s the rundown:

Keeping:

  • Maybelline BB Cream: Nice coverage with SPF 30
  • Maybelline Expert Wear Charcoal Smokes Eyeshadow: 4 colors in one pack
  • Beauty Basics Brush: Cheap (under $4) and good for bronzer and blush
  • Maybelline Master Drama Eyeliner: Nice smooth application
  • Khroma Fairy Dust Nail Polish: Gold & sparkly, actually purchased to wear for my marathon, not for work. Have been looking for a fun color for the race and this is it.

Exchanging:

  • Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder: Makes me look really pale, need to get a bronzer instead of this light powder
  • Maybelline Great Lash Mascara: Really clumpy, will exchange for a different Maybelline mascara because normally I like this brand, but not this particular mascara.

The total cost was $63 and while I don’t like to spend this kind of money before 8am on a Monday, it’s a good idea to keep cheapie makeup essentials in my gym bag all the time so I won’t be left stranded in the future. The makeup I left at home is more expensive (Nars, Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, etc) but for ease at the gym, this second set of makeup will be perfect.
