Final TNT Swim Practice: NYC Triathlon

July 9, 2013

Last night was my last TNT team swim practice. I decided to get it out of the way early this week and went to the advanced session which is held at Asphalt Green on the UES. It is infinitely nicer (see photo below- so nice, right?) than the Riverbank complex where I normally swim. Practice consisted of 20-30 minutes snake swimming followed by fun relay races.

For 4 months I’ve been swimming pretty consistently once a week & I can definitely see improvements. As much as I wanted to get myself to the pool more than once a week, I’m proud of myself just for continuing to go to practice weekly because after the first one I remember thinking- I am NEVER going to this again. Aside from being at an inconvenient location, swim practice has been at 8:30pm- meaning I don’t get home until 10:30pm (and then have to wake up at 5:40am for spin the next morning). It throws of my sleeping and eating schedule so I’m pretty happy it was our last practice this week. Even though it’s not my favorite activity, I kept with it and hope to see a faster time than last year’s race swim (just looked back at my swim splits over the last 3 years–21, 26, 20 mins. New goal- break 20 mins this year).

(this is a photo from my first NYC Tri as I headed to the swim start- no, I wasn’t in the Elite Women’s group but this photo makes it look like I was!)

I’ve yet to stock my kitchen in the new apartment so when I got home late last night there was nothing to eat & I went to sleep hungry. After spin this morning I treated myself to a smoothie at the Creative Juice bar at Equinox- The Berry Berry Nice (strawberry, banana, cherries, goji berries, rice milk, honey, chervil- 310 calories). Delish!
