Bike Commuting to Work

March 12, 2013

This might make me sound like the cheapest person on the planet, but I’m really annoyed that the subway fare has increased to $2.50 per ride. While it’s not THAT much, it does mean I spend at least $5 a day just to get to and from work, sorta annoying.

I’ve been toying with the idea of biking to work. I’m only about 3 miles from the office and the building has a bike room. I can ride from my apartment over to the West Side Highway and it would probably make for a nice morning commute. I currently have a Trek road bike and it’s great, but I don’t know if I want to ride it to work. I’m protective of it and it’s my racing bike. Even though it isn’t necessarily practical, I want a new bike! I’d want something simpler- a single speed ride that I could easily bring into and out of my apartment and the into and out of the office. Ideally I’d want to spend sub $200 (I’d be fine with a used bike). Currently I’m liking this Schwinn Cutter, although it’s out of my price range at $399. Cute, right?

Before making any big purchases I’m going to try riding my current bike to work (when the weather cooperates) and I’ll go from there.

Stay tuned!
