Bike Ride to Piermont

September 4, 2012

Remember a couple of months back when I wrote about the big bike ride to Nyack I was going to take? And then I never followed up with how it went? Well, it’s because I never did it…until yesterday (sort of)! While I didn’t make it all the way to Nyack, I did manage to make it VERY close and instead ended up in the quaint town of Piermont, just 3.5 miles shy of Nyack.

MM and I took off from the UWS around noon, thinking we’d go on a bike ride at least over the GW bridge, but it was not discussed exactly how far north we’d travel. I guess MM stopped paying attention, because before he knew it, we were 23 miles away from home, taking a break at the adorable Palisades Market. Once I mapped our location, I realized we were only a mere 2.3 miles away from Piermont, a cute town that seemed like the perfect place to relax, have lunch, and rest up for the ride home. How could we turn around now??

Once in Piermont, we took a ride over to the pier to take in the view, ate delicious and well-deserved pizza at Piermont Pizza and grabbed a yummy iced vanilla latte at Bunbury’s Coffee Shop (same place where Lance Armstrong stops for coffee!) for some extra energy. I’d be lying if I said we weren’t tired at this point. We got so nervous about the hilly ride home that we even researched buses from Piermont to NYC, but then realized we only had $4 in cash and therefore would HAVE to ride our bikes home.

So to make a long story short, we did in fact make it all the way home, completing a 50-mile bike ride. It was a fun day and a good challenge, go us!
