Blisstree just did a little feature on real women in their real workout clothes. And lookie here, I’m featured! Check it out.
We’ve definitely become a culture very focused on what we look and this includes the time we are at the gym sweating our butts off. While some people workout in ratty old t’s, a lot of people are spending lotsa money on fancy workout clothes. I can see both sides of this one. If you’re sweating and at the gym to work out, why bother looking good? You’re focused on the workout and NOT what you look like in the mirror.
But…I also see the other side. When I’m at the gym and I look like a mess I’m not as motivated to work hard. Not sure why, but when I think I look good, I want to work harder. This is especially the case in gym classes when I’m forced to stare at myself in the mirror for 45 minutes. I also don’t have the luxury of wearing whatever when I’m teaching spin class. All eyes are on me and I have to look the part. And fine, I just LOVE Lululemon, I can’t help it!

So, do you splurge on fancy gym clothes or are you a shorts and t kinda girl?
I took a trip to Lululemon to get a holiday gift for my mom (she works out almost as much as me if you can believe it!) and of course came across a million things I want for myself. I left the store with a classic zip up for my mom and managed to resist buying anything for myself. But if I were to go back and give into temptation, I’m in love with the What the Fluff Vest.
WANT.

Let me introduce you to one of my new favorite brands for workout clothes: MPG- Mondetta Performance Gear. The pieces are the perfect combination of performance and style. MPG was kind enough to let me try out some products, and I’m quite happy with what I’ve found. The flattering cut of the clothing makes me want to wear these somewhere besides the gym.
My favorite piece is the Flight Sports Bra ($40). Most sports bras are either supportive or cute, rarely both. This one is the exception. This is the ideal piece if you are the type to workout shirtless, you don’t want to hide how cute this bra is. I think it will be a great addition to my stash of yoga clothes for when my 30 day Bikram yoga challenge begins.

I’m also lovin’ the Simha Capri Tight ($56). Another good yoga piece, although I also wore these for spin.

You can check out MPG products online but if you want to see them in person they are sold at some of the Equinox shops. Check it out and let me know what you think!
I just came across this site- PV Body and it looks like a fun site for fitness enthusiasts.
Here’s how it works:
- Take a quick 60-second fitness profile questionnaire, answering questions like “whats your favorite way to workout” and “where do you like to work out” and “what celebrity matches your fitness style”
- Get your results, pick your shirt size and pant size
- Then, once you sign up for $39.95 a month, the PV experts put together an outfit that matches your fitness/style profile.
- Each month you receive a top and a bottom in the mail and you can cancel at anytime
If you go on the site here, you can watch a video that highlights some of the products sent over. From the looks of it, this is an amazing deal. In the video PV is shown sending out Nike long sleeve tops, Lululemon shorts and other notable (and pricey) brands. Cute fitness clothing can be pricey, a pair of Lulu shorts typically retails for over $50 so to get those plus a top sounds like a stellar deal for $39.95 (this price already includes shipping). For those weary of having someone else pick out their clothes, you are able to return your entire box for a refund or just one of the pieces for an exchange.

I’m pretty tempted to sign up for this BUT my drawers of workout clothing are already overfilled so I may need to hold back. But if you’re still looking to build your fitness wardrobe, this sounds like something worth trying!
Have you used PV Body? How has your experience been?
I’m doing some research on the best fitness clothes, so Shapin Up-ers, help me out! What is your favorite fitness brand to work out in?
Check out my latest story, Summer Sweat Survival: What to Wear When Working Out! It’s going to be a scorcher this weekend, prepare yourself!

Earlier this week while on a lovely and warm walk I wandered past the Lululemon store on the Upper West Side. I love their new window installment, mannequins showing off the reasons why they run. This one caught my eye, definitely one of the best parts of a great run!

So, why do you run?
