Products I’m Loving for Postpartum Energy, Hydration, and to Support Milk Supply

May 20, 2021

I have never been the type of person who forgets to eat a meal. You know those people who are so busy that they claim to forget to each lunch and don’t realize it until 5pm? That’s not me. Well, it wasn’t me. And now with two kids under the age of two, maybe it is me a little bit.

Perhaps I’m not forgetting to eat, but often it’s really hard to pull together a meal or snack and before I know it, it’s noon and all I’ve had is coffee and water. To combat this, the first few weeks postpartum I was basically grabbing whatever I could get my hands on. Usually it wasn’t particularly healthy, which felt OK in those early weeks. After all, it’s pretty much survival mode.

After a few weeks of this I felt ready to get my act together and have been working to eat more nutritionally dense and filling meals. I know that with the right foods I’ll have more energy (newborn life is exhausting), I’ll feel better, and I know it’s important for my milk supply to be eating right.

I’ve found some new items that I’m really loving that I’m going to share with you. These are especially great for busy and tired moms, but most of these items are great for any woman looking for a simple and healthy snack.

Postpartum Energy Snacks I’m Loving

Boobie* Superfoods: The name is a little silly, but also very fitting for what it is! They have products for pregnancy, lactation, and general motherhood. I’ve tried the Boobie Bark (granola to snack on), the Boobie Bears (superfood gummy bears!), the Boobie Body (protein powder I add to smoothies), the Boobie Bar (a dense and delicious bar when you are starving and have no time), and the Hydromom (electrolyte drink mix to add to water, which I’ve been using to stay hydrated). I can honestly say I love all of these products and they are so great for the demands of motherhood.

Majka: Majka products are all about support for breastfeeding and I’ve liked everything I’ve tried from them! I’ve been making a lot of green smoothies lately and like to add a scoop of the Green Vanilla Nourishing Lactation Protein Powder. I’ve also used their bites in the past and those are great too!

Nunona: Alright, another funny name, but the Mama Balls from Nunona are so good! They are like a tiny bite of dessert. Plus, the ingredients help to create quality breast milk. Simply put, Nunona balls contain the right nutrients to support babies brain and body. Powerful ingredients include oats, brewer’s yeast, flaxseed, nut butters and dates. I tried a box of the Cashew Confetti Balls (truly chose that flavor because of how cute they are) and I love em.

Daily Harvest: I’ll admit that I’m kind of cheap and when it comes to smoothies I know I can make them myself instead of shelling out money for pre-made ones. However, when it comes to the chaotic postpartum days, I totally get why people pay for things they can technically make themselves. I’ve been enjoying Daily Harvest smoothies as a quick grab-and-blend option when I don’t have two hands free to pull together my own smoothie.

Prefer to go homemade? I love the lactation cookie recipe from How Sweet Eats. My mom made me a huge batch that I’ve kept in the freezer to snack on. They are real good. This recipe from Ambitious Kitchen also looks good, though I haven’t tried it yet.

While I can’t say I’m my most energized self right now, I can say that having these nutritious items on standby really do make a difference and keep me going!
