Wait a minute, did I go back in time? If you’ve been
following along with my “training” you might have noticed that my weeks until
the race went form about 8 and now is magically at 15. I’ll come clean. I have
not been training and prepping for this race. Like at all. With the race only 7
weeks away I started to panic. I think I could get through the race and be
totally fine BUT I don’t think it would be a good experience.
An important part of being race ready is training, but also
feeling confident. With a race 7 weeks away, I felt no confidence. Despite
signing on for a training program and talking about the race a lot, I wasn’t
actually doing anything to prepare.
Fortunately the lovely folks that I’ve been working with to set
up my race entry have allowed me to swap into a later race, Timberman in New Hampshire. After weighing the
pros and cons of doing the June 21st versus August 16th
race, I decided the smart choice was to go for the later race. The weather is
finally nice and I can get long bike rides and outdoor workouts in, I’ll be getting a new bike that I need time
to get comfortable on and MM can join me for the August race (he had a conflict
come up for the June race). I never like signing up for races and not doing
them, but this made sense, I’d rather do a race where I feel confident and I’ve
been given a second chance to prepare, not something I should turn down.
Over the past 8ish weeks when I should have been training I
let a lot of things get in the way. The weather was the first obstacle, I had
no desire to ride on an indoor bike for 3 hours. Whenever plans came up, I went
with the social engagement instead of training. I’m not the type to put my life
on hold for race training but I do want to make a bigger effort to focus on
training leading into the August race.
So here we go, let’s give this another try! Based on my
Training Peaks account, here is this week’s schedule:
Monday: Swim 2,600 yards, run 45 minutes
Tuesday: Swim 2,350 yards
Wednesday: Bike 35 minutes, jog 15 mins
Thursday: Bike 55 minutes
Friday: Day off
Saturday: Swim 2,200 yards, bike 2 hrs 30 mins, run 40 mins
Sunday: Run 1 hr, swim 1,500
Um excuse me, swimming is on my schedule 4 times this week.
Is that even human? Clearly this app doesn’t know what it takes to dry my hair.
Like every week, I have some conflicts in my way but I’m going to do my very
best to get these workouts done. They probably won’t happen in the order listed
above, but if I can get most of them in I will call it a successful week.
Stay tuned for more!
