The past two+ months have been some of the weirdest of our lives, right? Self isolation and quarantine are words that I would never have expected to be using on a regular basis, but here we are. I love reading about other people’s routines, so I thought I’d share what our quarantine routine looks like.
In case you didn’t know, I have an 11-month old baby and I work part-time from home as a freelance writer. I usually teach workout classes at two local gyms but those are all currently closed.
Normally when reading or writing daily routines, everyone says, “everyday is different!” but um, yea every day is basically the same right now. I try to mix things up and not every day is exactly the same, but it more or less feels like groundhog day and while there are tiny elements that change, we’re in a pretty solid routine.
There are a few silver linings to life in quarantine. Before all of this, other new moms and myself would complain to each other about how it was impossible to get into a good routine with our baby. How could we maximize their naps while also having social lives? Ah, to have that problem again. With no social life, I’ve really mastered Millie’s schedule! While that’s nice and all, it makes me realize that it’s ok to not have a strict schedule and I’d rather be out doing things and messing up nap time, than hanging at home all the time. But we need to look on the bright side, so right now we’ll enjoy our very set routine.
The bulk of my day is spent feeding Millie, whether that’s nursing her or working on solids. If the schedule makes it look like that’s all we do all day, that’s the reality of life with a baby. If you’re a mom, I’m sure you can relate. And if you’re not, I’m sure this all sounds very thrilling to you!
So if you’re curious about my day-in-the-life, here’s a little look at our quarantine routine:
6:20am: Wake Up
6:30am: Head to my Peloton for a workout (my go-to: 30 minute ride + 10 minute arm toning). Usually during this time Millie wakes up, I watch her on the monitor and she’s typically pretty content to hang out. *Note: I do not wake up for early morning workouts all the time! I love doing it but sometimes I instead sleep until 7am when Millie wakes up.
7:15am: Get Millie out of crib, nurse her, get her ready for the day, play for a bit
8am: Breakfast for Millie, coffee for me
9am: Morning walk with Millie and Ollie
10am: Nurse Millie, put her down for her nap, work time for me (this differs depending on the day but might include personal training a client via Zoom and/or researching and writing for my own projects or for The Everymom), eat breakfast
12pm: Millie wakes up from nap (usually her naps aren’t a full 2 hours, but this is always the goal!), nurse her
12:30pm: Lunch for Millie, then play time
2pm: Second walk of the day with Millie and Ollie
3pm: Nurse Millie, put her down for her second nap, I do more work or workout if I didn’t do it in early in the morning
4pm: Millie wakes up from her nap, nurse her, play time
4:30pm: Third walk of the day with Millie and Ollie
5pm: Lead an Instagram Live workout (this varies by day–Mondays 5pm and Friday 9am)
5:30pm: Dinner for Millie
6:30pm: Nurse Millie and bedtime for Millie
7pm: Cook dinner, eat dinner, sometimes do a little more work, watch (multiple hours of) TV
10:30pm: Read for a few minutes before bed, go to sleep
How has your routine been going? Have you found ways to make the days feel different and interesting?
