I just posted a piece on Winter Training Tips on the CGI Racing Blog. To give you a few highlights, the piece mentions that my running has been brought to a stand still due to cold temps and my overall disinterest in running. Along the way I give five cold-weather running tips and how to get motivated to train for a race, even though it’s 9 degrees out today (take a read please!).
After completing my first marathon on November 3 I was so pumped about running. Even though I had just come out of months of training I was loving running and immediately signed up for The Love Run, a half marathon on March 30th (spots are still available, sign up and join me!).
Fast forward to today, I’ve run exactly 3 miles since the marathon. THREE! What happened to my love of running? Somehow, it got away from me. With the Polar Vortex combined with teaching a ton of cycling classes (averaging 5-8 weekly) and a few trips thrown in, running just has not been on my list. I’m at the gym nearly every single day yet running is not part of my routine. But things are about to change. I want to get back that passion for running because I know deep down it will feel really good and also because gah, the half marathon is in nine weeks! It is time to get moving!
I’m currently putting together my training schedule and it is a bit overwhelming but I’m hoping to get back at it this weekend (on a treadmill because even though I love running, it ain’t happening outside until it warms up a tad).
Have you ever fallen off the running wagon? What helped motivate you to get back on?
