Vermont Getaway: Stratton Mountain
Last weekend a few friends and I headed out of the city and visited Stratton Mountain. It was my first time there and I fell in love. The mountain had a perfect range of terrain. I’m a blue/black snowboarder and found plenty in my range and the beginners and more advanced skiers also had their pick of runs. Aside from a fairly empty mountain with great conditions (is there any better combination?), there was top notch customer service, delicious lodge food and a cute ski village right next to the mountain.
A bit more on the food; I will admit the lunch break is one of my favorite parts of the ski day; after hours of being in the cold you get to relax for an hour and chow down. I was happy to see there was a range of options- your standard fried food plus healthy options like a chopped salad bar and what I got, Thai lemon grass soup (pictured); the perfect thing to warm me up.
I head to Vermont almost every winter and I can’t believe this was my first time at Stratton. It’s already on my list for next year; we had a great time and I’m looking forward to going back (although I’m even more so looking forward to the end of this long winter).
If you’re driving from NYC it’s only 4 hours away which isn’t bad for solid ski conditions. The mountain is open for a couple of more weeks so if you want to get in one last ski trip, check it out. If not, it looks like they have fun Spring and Summer activities too, Wanderlust or Vermont Challenge anyone?
