Race Recap: Run to the Finish

July 23, 2010

Following the 26 mile bike ride it was back to the transition zone to drop off my bike, change to my running shoes, add on my race number and head out to Central Park for a 6.2 mile run.  This part was great, I knew in an hour max (hopefully) I’d be done. Along the way I saw my cheering parents and friends.  Because I had already been racing for 2 hours this portion felt like slow motion. I estimated that I was running about a 10 minute mile and figured that if I kept that up I’d get in around 3 hours, maybe a little more.  After 6 miles I had my final sprint to the finish and was so excited to see that I had finished under 3 hours, 2:59:48- I made it under with 12 seconds to spare!  Once my results were posted online I realized how far off my running pace estimate was! I was actually running an 8:35 mile which I still don’t really comprehend.

At the finish line I was greeted by friends and family and it was amazing! We then went to celebrate at the Boat Basin along the Hudson River.

My parents, along for the whole race!

My awesome friends who got up early to see me!

All in all, I LOVED the triathlon and can’t wait to do another. I’d like to follow a training plan next time and push myself harder.  If you have any comments or questions feel free to ask!
