A couple of months back I looked into a bunch of different retreats and healthy getaways and finally landed on Pura Vida Adventures in Costa Rica. My friend Irene and I booked our trip what seems like forever ago and I can’t believe it but it’s almost here! In three weeks we’ll be flying out to Costa Rica for a weeklong adventure.
We chose Pura Vida because it has all the components we were after: surf instruction, daily yoga, fresh healthy meals, lots of relaxation and then some other bonuses (like a beach front massage).
It’s not easy to get to the retreat location in Malpais. The whole point of choosing a program like this one is that it’s remote and off the beaten path so it’s not surprising that it’s going to take hours and hours and $$$ to get there. I’ll be flying from NYC, connecting in FL then landing in San Jose, CR. There I’ll meet up with Irene (coming from DC) and we’ll take a tiny plane for 30 minutes from San Jose to Tambur. From there, it’s a 1 hour bus ride to Malpais. That’s one way to do it, on the way home we’ll take a 5 hour bus ride from Malpais to San Jose, skipping the tiny plane ride.
See, not easy! And of course all of those little transfers and what not add up to big money. I knew this trip would be expensive but I’m so excited for the adventure and I know it is money well-spent (#treatyoself).
Once we arrive, this is what our trip includes:
- Accommodations at a beachfront resort with pool, restaurant/bar, spa, oceanfront hammocks
- Daily surf instruction
- Sunset surf sessions, watch the sun melt into the horizon from your surfboard (whaaa? this is my dream)
- Daily yoga sessions in an outdoor, oceanfront yoga studio
- Three healthy gourmet meals each day at the beachfront restaurant
- One hour beachfront massage
- All necessary surf equipment
- Day trips to secret surf spots
- Gear for surfing, bottled water, snacks, essentials + more
How heavenly does all of that sound? I can’t believe it’s only 3 weeks away! I’m so excited and will be keeping you posted as I prep for the trip. Stay tuned for my packing list, including my favorite surf & yoga gear.
Let the official countdown begin: 18 Days!
