My latest app obsession is NTC by Nike. This (free!) app acts as your personal trainer offering tons of workouts. First you choose your goal from these options: Get Lean, Get Toned, Get Strong or Get Focused. Depending on what you choose you are either given levels (beginner, intermediate or advanced) or simply go to a list of workouts.
So far I’ve only played around in the Get Focused section and I’m a huge fan. I’m going to make my way through all options but let’s start with Get Focused. The Get Focused section offers a bunch of workouts 15 minutes and under. These are perfect to add on to your cardio so for me, after spin class or a run I select one of these 15-minute routines. On days where I don’t have the energy to leave the house I’ll select two 15-minute routines to do. You can pick by body part: abs, arms, legs, all-over toning, etc. I’ve been doing all the different abs routines multiple times a week and I totally feel a change. My core is getting stronger and I can see more ab definition.
These 15-minute workouts are mostly made up of 5 moves, done for 1 minute each, repeated 3 times. Before you launch the routine it will tell you what you need (a lot need just a mat, some need weights, resistance bands or a medicine ball) and you can view a preview of the workout. Once you’re ready to begin, press play and the app will talk you through the moves. If you are viewing it on your phone you only see an image of the move but if you don’t know how to do it you can click on the image for a video tutorial (this pauses the workout timer) but if you’re streaming it through your TV the app will show you the moves as the timer goes which I prefer.
I love using the app in my living room via Apple TV. I have a nice set up and get a serious burn without leaving the house. This app will come in handy this winter and is also great when traveling as these workouts take up very little space and will give you some structure if you’re working out in your hotel room or a bare-bones hotel gym.
