I’ve heard great things about the Insanity workout and I’ve decided to give it a go. I’ve got approximately 2 months until my cruise so why not be in ripped shape for that?
A bit about Insanity: The program is 63 days, made up of multiple DVDs and workouts. Every two weeks you take a “Fit Test” to follow your progress. The Fit Test involves 8 different moves that you do for 1 minute each, counting how many reps you get through. Last night I took the first Fit Test and also did Workout #1 since I won’t have time to do it today (due to Cycling overload).
After doing the test and the first workout, I have to say, this is harder than I expected! When I hear the words Workout DVD I don’t expect it to be that challenging, but this certainly is. I was sweating up a storm and my heart was racing. I can already tell that if you followed this workout for all 63 days you’d likely see some stellar results.
I have a few concerns about being able to follow this entire program.
Issue #1 is space. I have a nice sized living room which is actually perfect for these workouts, but unfortunately I live above a very grumpy old man. He has yelled at me on numerous occasions just because of the way I walk. I’ve gotten thumps on my floor when I drop something by accident and scolded because I have a heavy footstep. When we had guests over for a nice sit down dinner, we were told it sounded like a heard of elephants. SO, how is this guy going to react while I jump up and down and run around my apartment for an hour each day? Probably not well. Last night I did the workout on the carpeted part of the floor and also stacked two yoga mats on top of that. I wasn’t yelled at, but I’m pretty sure it’s because that guy wasn’t home. Not sure I will be able to get away with this for 2 months.
Issue #2 is scheduling. I already work out multiple times a week, including 2-6 spin classes. I am a bit concerned that I won’t have time to fit in all of these workouts during weeks when I am teaching a lot of cycling classes but I’m going to do my best to keep up.
Issue #3 is I love the gym and running outside. I don’t want to neglect working out at the gym and running in Central Park. I think working out in my living room for 63 days might get a tad boring and lonely. I love the energy in group fitness classes and at-home work outs just don’t have the same feeling. I’m going to try and mix in my regular gym visits along with the Insanity schedule.
So, while I have my reservations about the whole program, I’m going to try to keep up with it! And of course I’ll keep you posted along the way. Below is my schedule and the results of Fit Test #1! Here we go!
