Spruce up the First Meal of the Day

November 7, 2012

As much as I’d love to cook myself up a nice and hearty breakfast, usually I only have enough time to grab something quickly on the go, often times it’s Greek Yogurt. It’s pretty healthy to begin with, but there are some easy add-ins that kick up the nutritional value. Here’s what I add:

  • Cinnamon: Many health benefits, including lowers bad cholesterol and helps stabilize blood sugar
  • Chia Seeds: Curbs appetite, high in fiber, omega fatty acids, calcium and antioxidants
  • Flaxseed: Contains lignans which reduce the risk of breast cancer, source of Omega-2, each tablespoon contains about 7 grams of fiber, reduces bloating.

To make your breakfast routine even faster, pre-mix these ingredients together and have a container of the mixture ready to go. I usually eat breakfast at my desk so I keep them on-hand at work. The mixture adds a little flavor and a nice texture. If you’ve got some on hand, toss in some fruit as well.
