I made it 21 days! Well, sort of. I didn’t completely stick to the detox plan but for the most part, I did a pretty good job of sticking to healthy, whole foods. A few cheats and treats here and there and overall a solid 21 days.
Over the weekend I was exhausted from Cycle for Survival and that led to some non-compliant snacks but nothing terrible. I stayed completely dairy-free for the 21 days and this experience helped me see the things that make me feel like crap. Similar to Whole30, when you’re keeping track of everything you’re eating and cutting a lot out, when you don’t feel great, it’s easier to tell what it stemmed from.
For me, in these 21 days I learned that when I go overboard with trail mix and dried mango (two of my weaknesses!) I feel really terrible and would be better off eating a full, whole meal. The trail mix and the dried mango I eat are healthy, they have no added sugar and include raw nuts BUT when you do too much of even a healthy thing, it’s not good.
A helpful part of this process was keeping a shared food diary with my friend via a google doc. If you’ve got a friend that’s interested in healthier eating, work together and keep each other on track.
We’re keeping our doc going and we’ll see where this takes us! After 21 days of staying mostly on track, the Winter Blues are behind me and I’m feeling good.
