Happy Friday from Italy! I’m currently traveling with MM and my parents and today we’re heading from Cinque Terre (where we just spent 3 days), to Tuscany. Our weather has been hit or miss, but we’re still making the most of our time here, we’re just squeezing in extra activities when the sun is shining.
So far, we had the best weather on the first day in Cinque Terre. Worried it might be the only rain-free day, we hiked as much as possible that day. The goal was to hit all 5 towns. One town is currently not accessible by foot (and won’t be for many years), but we managed to hike to the other four! Some of the most direct paths are closed, which meant a serious day on our feet. My legs are still feeling it (especially my calves–so many stairs!), but I’m glad to didn’t wait to cover the milage, I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to tackle those narrow paths in the rain.
Friday’s Fitness: Go For a Hike
And that brings me to this Friday’s Fitness. Instead of a workout full of burpees and push ups, I’m sharing some simple advice. Go for a walk or a hike! I get super caught up in what constitutes a “workout”. Is it still a workout if it’s a really long walk? Or a slow hike? I get in my own head about this and usually only consider it a proper workout if I broke a sweat, burned a certain amount of calories and was active for a set amount of time.
I can’t rewire my brain so easily, but I’m always trying to remind myself that hiking and long walks are also good for the body and soul. While it may not feel the same as completing a tough HIIT workout, sometimes it’s just what you need. So instead of giving a Friday Fitness routine, all I’m saying is go for a walk or a hike, enjoy the scenery and the journey, and feel good in the fresh air.
Happy weekend everyone!
