Moving to a new country will throw your routine for a major loop. And I’m talking all parts of your routine. For me though, it’s hitting especially hard for my fitness routine. In the US I had a pretty rigorous gym schedule, teaching 5+ classes a week at Equinox, plus checking out my favorite boutique studios from time to time. It’s definitely different in Spain. Here, the same focus isn’t put on fitness, but I’m doing my best to find a routine that works for me.
After finding a gym nearby, I needed something to hold me accountable and keep me to a schedule. I decided I’d sign up for a half marathon, one of the best ways to stick to a regimen. I still haven’t found a race I want to do, so that hasn’t really worked. I then turned to Kayla’s BBG workouts.
My Past Tries with Kayla’s BBG
I’ve had the BBG PDF saved to my computer for a few years. I’ve started in more times than I’d like to count. Typically around week 3 I’m over it and give up. The workouts are challenging and easy to follow along with, but I find them to be repetitive and boring. When you have so many other great fitness options, like the ones in big US cities, it’s hard to stick with a solo program that you don’t love.
Why This Time is Different
Sadly, I don’t have all the great fitness options at my fingertips, which is why this is the one time I’m actually sticking with BBG. And while there are a few fitness studios I want to try in the area, I’m on a budget and can’t make them a regular commitment. So instead, I once again turned to BBG and I’m currently on Week 6! I still find the workouts to be a bit repetitive and boring, but they are challenging and they do keep me on a schedule.
Beyond BBG
The main piece of the BBG workouts are the 3 weekly HIIT circuits. There’s also nutritional info and cardio recommendations. I’m only doing the HIIT portions. Beyond that, I’m trying to get myself into a better running routine (goal is two times per week), and then one gym workout that I create myself (like the ones I share here on Fridays). I know that finding a new routine takes time, and it’s something I have to remind myself of often. I’m continuing to work on it and week-by-week I’m getting into a better groove.
This week will mark the halfway point of my BBG experience. Next week, once I’m officially 6 weeks in, I’ll share my progress and review thus far.
Have you ever done Kayla’s BBG? Are you a fan?
