Check out Mighty Pilates for that slowwwww burn.
One of my 2017 fitness goals was to embrace slower workouts. I formerly didn’t think it was a workout unless I was a pile of sweat and was on the verge of passing out at the end, but the current me knows that slower, more focused movements offer the body different benefits. One of those slowed down workouts that I’m really loving is pilates. I’ve been checking out different studios across the city, including Mighty Pilates in Laurel Heights.
Mighty Pilates is a bright and welcoming studio that has reformers in the front room and towers in the back room. I love that they offer two types of pilates to mix things up. To get the best of everything, I tried Mighty Mix: Reformer & Tower, a little bit of each. The studio also offers straight tower or reformer classes, Mighty Sport that includes cardio interval training, Power Pilates, Jumpboard and more–so many options! Did you know there were this many types of pilates? Me neither.
Mighty Pilates Class Overview
My Mighty Mix class started on the reformers, warming up the body and engaging muscles I didn’t even know I had. Just when I felt like I couldn’t handle anymore, it was time to hop off the reformer and head next door to the tower portion of class. It was the perfect mix to keep you going without getting bored. I’d only done tower pilates once before so I was a little rusty, but our instructor kept us very informed about each movement.
By the time class was over I knew I worked it and would be feeling it the next day. I didn’t break a sweat, but my muscles were shaking. This class is ideal for a low-impact but powerful workout.
I had the opportunity to take the class with a crew of SF bloggers and we all had a blast. I’m hoping to return to the studio soon. It’s quite far from my apartment, otherwise I’d probably be addicted.
Mighty Pilates Pricing
Like most (all?) pilates studios, these classes don’t come cheap. A single class is $36 but buy in bulk and you’ll save big. Get the 20 pack for $550 and it nets out to $27.50, which is actually a pretty good deal for pilates reformer.
