Time to share Part II of my ski weekend (you can check out Part I here). One of the crazy, exciting and totally weird things that happened during the ski weekend is my friend’s video of their baby went viral. On Friday morning my friends who were on the ski trip, Stephen & Michael, posted an adorable video on Facebook of Stephen’s son being confused by his dad and his twin (I’m sure you’ve already seen it but if not view it below). At the start of the ski trip we saw the views go up slowly, hitting around the 10k mark. We kept joking, OMG it’s going viral! When is Ellen going to call? The views continued to spike and all of a sudden it took off at an insane rate, jumping up into the hundreds of thousands by the hour on Sunday. Working in media, I know about videos and the goal to have them gain speed, but I’ve never organically seen something go viral, not to mention, completely unexpectedly.
On Monday morning I told my coworkers about the cute video and how it had so many views, but most seemed to be in other countries and no one I told about it had seen the video yet. The view count continued to jump to the multi-millions and by Wednesday the video had been picked up by so many news outlets, Buzzfeed, The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, Time, etc etc. The video is everywhere. I still can’t even believe this explosion, but I mean hello, isn’t Reed the cutest? Who knew I was spending my ski weekend with a mini celeb!
Being the investigate blogger/reporter that I am, I asked Reed for an exclusive comment on his new found internet fame, he said, “Dada” (His vocabulary is still pretty limited so I’ll take what I can get).
Aside from that excitement, day 2 of our ski trip was relaxed and awesome. Only four of us decided to ski the second day. We had a leisurely morning then headed to Stratton Mountain. You’ve probably seen Stratton’s ads as they’re all over NYC, and for good reason. The mountain is four hours from the city and a great place to escape to. The amenities are top notch and remind me of skiing out west. We spent our morning tackling black diamonds and even some double blacks (scary, especially with the somewhat icy conditions) and then as the day went on, made our way to easier slopes as our legs got tired.
We took a quick break at Grizzly’s in the base lodge. I loved the look and feel of the restaurant/bar. It’s like an upscale apres ski hangout with huge windows overlooking the slopes. We grabbed some food, some beer and then headed back to the trails for a few more runs before heading home.
Next up, we relaxed by the fire, watched the Super Bowl and Monday morning headed back into the city. Another great ski weekend in the books! The rest of winter is surprisingly busy so unfortunately it looks like it may be the only ski trip I’ll take this season. Sad as it is, I’ll start looking forward to more mountain adventures next winter!
