Took advantage of the holiday time off and headed to MD to spend the long weekend with family. My brother and (new!) sister-in-law hosted Christmas dinner, such a treat.
Because they are doing a grain-free diet, all the food was grain free, but you would never know it. The apps included flatbreads made with Simple Mills Almond Flour mix, deviled eggs and artichoke wrapped in prosciutto (a tasty combo I will be copying).
Even the desserts were grain free, but still decadent.
These cupcakes also used Simple Mills mix, topped with a coconut cream frosting.
I haven’t been so great about following a Paleo eating style but this meal reminded me that with the right prep, you can stick to Paleo without denying yourself.
I posted a couple of weeks ago about how I’d go into the new year healthy and to that I say ha-ha. While not totally crazy, when at home I skipped the gym, relaxed and ate whatever I wanted. But you know what? It’s totally fine. A couple of days of going off routine won’t do major damage, and quite the opposite, I think it’s necessary every so often so you don’t go crazy.
After 3 days of lazying around and indulging, I’m ready to get back to my routine. I have the next week off from work (yesss) but will be in the city for most of it, so I’ll have time to workout, cook, get proper z’s and enter the new year feeling super refreshed.
I know I’m not the only one who will indulge over the holidays so if you’re feeling like me, check out Kristine’s recent post: 5 Ways to Enjoy the Holidays and Feel Your Best. And none of those ways enjoy a juice cleanse, because as easy as that option sounds, it never works out like you think it will. I will definitely be following these tips, with a few more indulgences along the way, as we hit 2016.
Another weekend highlight? Ollie hanging with his new bud, Grits.
I hope that you are enjoying your holidays and spending quality time with family, friends and cute pups!
