For the first time ever, I’m staying in NYC for Thanksgiving. Typically I head to Maryland to celebrate with my family, but this year some of my family (& MM’s family) is coming to us. My brother is getting married in a couple of weeks at my parents house and a double hosting was not in the cards so MM and I offered to host! While I love being in MD for the holiday and seeing some of my high school friends, I’m so excited to be hosting and staying in the city for the long weekend.
There are some hurdles that we’ll face, mainly that our kitchen is TINY and our old oven most certainly does not fit a turkey. Fortunately we have our large outdoor space and if the weather is as good as it’s looking to be, we may be able to have our Thanksgiving meal outside. The turkey will be made on the grill (we’ll see how this goes) and as for the sides, we’ll take turns with the oven and extremely limited counter space.
We’ll be hosting a total of 8 and everyone is bringing one or more dishes to share; we’ll likely have way too much food (not complaining!). I’ll be making a Green Bean Casserole with Fried Shallots, Creamy No Bake Pumpkin Pie and cornbread stuffing.
Aside from the greatness of avoiding travel on a holiday weekend, there are fun things in NYC that I’m excited to take part in. Near our apartment on the UWS the balloons are blown up to prep for tomorrow’s parade, we’ll take a walk over to check that out tonight, and then do all we can to avoid the actual parade tomorrow.
However you are celebrating the holiday this year, I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
