One of my big concerns going into my Ironman 70.3 was staying motivated and not getting bored. The race took over 6 hours and you are strictly forbidden from listening to music on the course. To keep myself entertained, I counted swim strokes while swimming, looked at the scenery while biking and running and sang Taylor Swift and Beyonce to myself (in my head, not out loud…no one wants to hear that).
In between all of that, I thought about mantras, motivating messages to repeat in your head to keep you going. Well+Good asked readers for their favorite mantras and mine was selected! Because duh, I quoted Beyonce, so how could they not select it. Here’s the full list.
So when I wasn’t singing Shake it Off, I was repeating Beyonce’s lyrics, “Who run the world? GIRLS” another favorite song of mine.
How do you stay motivated through a long workout or race, especially when you can’t listen to music?
