It’s April 1st but guess what, yesterday in NYC it snowed a bit. When will it end!? The one upside of snow in March and April is Spring skiing! A couple of weeks back I was in Utah and it was my first opportunity to ski in the sunshine. I’m used to being freezing with as many layers as I can manage, but on this trip it was all about light, breathable clothing.
I received a little snow wardrobe refresh from my friends at Obermeyer, Gordini and Bern.
First with Obermeyer, I got a new ski jacket that I absolutely love. This is perfect for ski trips when you’re going to be on the mountain but also out in town. I hate wearing my bulky old ski jacket out and about and the Brigitte Jacket is the solution to this problem. It’s a ski jacket but easily doubles as an off-the-mountain piece. It has the ski necessities, it’s waterproof, breathable, has a water-resistant powder skirt, a goggle cloth, lined hand warmer pockets and even a chapstick-specific pocket. On the other hand, it looks like a jacket you’d wear out.
Also from Obermeyer, I wore the Motion 75 Dri-Core Top and leggings which is best for windier, chillier days but also totally worked for this warm ski trip as my only layer. Our first day was the chilliest so I stuck with Obermeyer but by day 2 and 3 I switched over to lighter gear from C9 Champion, skiing in their lightweight seamless t shirt with printed leggings.
From Bern I wore the Lenox Helmet in this adorable two-toned green. It comes with a liner to keep you warm but was light enough that I wasn’t sweating as I skied.
As for my gloves, I went with Gordini gloves, again these were warm, breathable and waterproof without being too heavy. Also, these are the first ski gloves that I’ve seen that are tech-friendly so you can text without freezing your hands off!
Now that I’ve gotten a taste of warm Spring skiing, I’m not quite sure how I’m going to go back to the subzero conditions I’m used to. I guess I have a year to worry about that. In the meantime, try to get out for another day or two on the slopes!
