Oh man, finally it’s Friday! Here are the things that caught my eye this week.
1. I’m all for hibernating with a good book (or Netflix series) when the temps drop, but maybe it’s best to fight the desire to sit in a cozy dark corner to beat the wintertime blues. Well+Good’s tips for How To Get Happy this Winter encourages you to be social even if it means heading outside in sub zero temps.
2. Came across this illustration on mylocalledlife’s blog and it is a good one. One of my resolutions for the year was to not only stop comparing myself to others but to keep in mind what I have, not what I’m missing.
3. Have you had Levain cookies in NYC? If not, get there asap. Perhaps some of you don’t have it as easy as me (I live on the same street at Levain) so you don’t have the luxury of walking out your front door and buying the best cookies on the planet. If you can’t get to the bakery, try this at-home option, Copycat Levain Bakery Chocolate Chip Cookies by Broma Bakery. I’ll probably never try it because it’s way easier for me to walk next door (#spoiled), but to get a taste of the best sweet on earth, give this recipe a try.
4. While I’m not buying cookies next door (I swear I don’t do this often), I’m probably cooking something Paleo. I’ve been trying recipes from The Performance Paleo Cookbook. So far we’ve tried prosciutto salmon, the burrito rice bowl and the smoked salmon fritata. This cookbook is going to be key as I eat Paleo and train for an Ironman 70.3.
5. Another one of my resolutions this year is all about de-cluttering. I’ve been reading about The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and wow, this takes clearing out your junk to a whole new level. This super popular book says you should take everything out of your closet and drawers and piece by piece decide if it “sparks joy.” If it doesn’t, get rid of it. Seems drastic and also seems like I’d be left with 10 outfits but I get the idea. I just ditched about 5 bags worth of clothing but feel like there is more work to be done. Perhaps I’ll take some notes from this book during my next clean out. You can read more about it HERE.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!
