Over the holidays MM and I were up in New Hampshire and took a little day trip out to Loon Mountain for a day on the slopes. Our timing wasn’t ideal as the day we went it was in the 40s and the snow was slushy but it didn’t matter, we still had an awesome day. I’m typically freezing while snowboarding so secretly I enjoyed the sunny day, even if it meant not so great snow.
Because of the less than ideal conditions we practically had the mountain to ourselves. It’s a nice sized mountain and the day we skied there were barely any lines. We had to wait a couple of minutes for the gondola but at the smaller chair lifts we could just hop on. While skiing down some slopes there was no one else to be seen. We found a few slopes we loved and stuck to those for most of the day.
We went with friends who decided the conditions weren’t worth skiing so Loon actually gave them a voucher for their lift ticket and rentals to come back another day. I thought this was super nice of them, they easily could have said no.
MM and I skied for a few hours then headed inside for some hang time with our friends. We grabbed beers and bar food at the lodge and omg, we had one of the best things ever: sweet potato fries loaded with cheese, bacon and maple syrup.
May sound like an odd combo but trust me on this one. If you go to Loon, make sure you treat yourself to this app after skiing, you will not be sorry (I mean you will hate yourself after but DURING you will be in heaven).
We also split the nachos which weren’t the best nachos in the world but hey, they were nachos (clearly this meal was during my holiday break from healthy eating and perhaps now you can understand my extreme need for a January detox of sorts).
If I happen to be back in New Hampshire during the Winter months, Loon will definitely be on my agenda. Great mountain to check out if you’re in the area. This trip to Loon kicks off a big season of skiing! Lots of trips coming up, will be sure to to give you the mountain recaps along the way.
