Spring Refresh: One Day Juice Cleanse

April 10, 2014

My eating habits have been a bit all over the place recently (strict Paleo one day, bagel & cream cheese the next) and now that it’s finally getting warm out, spring is here (not to mention summer is right around the corner) and I wanted to get serious. To start myself off right I did a one-day juice cleanse from Liquiteria. One day cleanses are great because not only do you feel super light and fresh after a days worth of juice, even more importantly I believe it puts you in the right mindset. Cleansing allows you to take a look at your food intake and makes you more mindful of what you are putting into your body.

So why not a three-day cleanse? Many companies offer and recommend three days and while I’ve done these in the past, I was not up for it this time around. Three day cleanses can be good but they also are really challenging. Scheduling a three-day cleanse can be hard since you can’t go out for any meals and as I’ve learned in the past, sitting with friends at dinner while you cleanse is pure torture. If you’re training for a race or you’re an intense fitness person, multi-day cleanses make it hard to get in long runs or high-intensity workouts. Because of all these reasons I chose a one-day cleanse, the Explore & Nourish from Liquiteria. Read on to hear how it went.

I did my cleanse on Wednesday which also happens to be the day that I wake up the earliest for am cycling class. My alarm went off at 5:20am and I was instantly starving (I’m sure this was mental, knowing I wouldn’t be able to eat all day). I drank a big glass of water and headed to teach my class. I never eat before my morning class so this was fine. Sometimes I’ll drink coffee on the way but not having it wasn’t a big deal.

After class I drank another large glass of water and at 9:30am had my first green juice. This one is all greens, not sweet but fine. I had a small headache all morning, likely because I always have coffee and on this day didn’t.

I continued with my juices every 2-3 hours plus tons of water along the way for the rest of the day until I had my final juice at 8:30pm. I know that juicing is supposed to be good for energy levels but for me it wasn’t happening. I think it may be due to my very early morning workout but by the time I got home from work all I wanted to do was lay on the couch. I had planned to go to yoga after work but I couldn’t muster the energy, so couch time it was! I got in bed at 9:30pm and had a solid nights sleep.

The cleanse had six juices, 16 fl oz each, a mix of green juices and fruitier juices. I actually liked all of the juices but the last one, The Royal Flush was definitely the tastiest (pineapple based). You can check out the details of each juice HERE.

I woke up this morning feeling excellent! I felt light, hydrated and with zero bloat. I thought I’d wake up hungry but I didn’t. I had another 6:30am class to teach and felt fine throughout. Today I’m focusing on eating fresh fruits and vegetables, plus lots of water. I really feel that after one day of cleansing I’m ready to make healthier choices this Spring, not to mention get ready for all my summer beach vacations (after all, summer is only 71 days away).

If you’re looking for a healthy reset for Spring, definitely check out Liquiteria. On the site you can read more about cleansing, why it’s good for you and tips for before, during and after.
