Team in Training: Pre-Season Workout #1

February 6, 2013

Last night I attended my first workout with my Team in Training NYC Tri team! I’ve done plenty of races but have always made up my own training schedule. This time around I’m doing things differently and will be training for the summer tri with the help of experienced coaches. Last night we had a pre-season get together to meet a few people and see a sneak peek of what the workouts will be like. I was not looking forward to it since it was pitch black out, a little bit snowy, and 30 degrees. Once we started moving it wasn’t so bad. Here’s a look at our workout:

  • Warm up jog from the bottom of Central Park (by Columbus Circle) up a little beyond the 72nd street transverse.
  • Once up there we did a few drills: squats, high knees, butt kicks and skips.
  • Next we did three little running loops around that area with sets of 10 squats in between each run.

The one hour meetup was a nice way to ease people into the group workouts. While the workout was on the easy side, it was effective in getting my heart rate up and giving me a push to get my butt outside for a run. I’ve been avoiding outdoor runs since the cold hit.

If you’re interested in checking out a pre-season workout, shoot me a message- friends can come along and try it out to see if it’s something they would like to participate in. We have 2 more trainings, Tuesday nights 6:30pm in Central Park.
