I spend many hours a week at the gym and I have a long list of pet-peeves from my fellow gym-goers. Here’s a good list of etiquette to follow including what not to do in The Weight Room, The Cardio Zone, The Locker Room & The Studio.
A few rules from my personal gym etiquette handbook are missing. Here they are:
- Don’t come late to a class and stand directly in front of someone else, blocking their view of the mirror. If you’re late, stand in the back.
- If you are new to spin, come at least 10 minutes early to learn the basic rules and how to properly set up your bike.
- Don’t talk during a class, including the warm up and cool down.
- If you need to leave a class early, leave quickly and quietly. Don’t stand in the room doing stretches and changing your outfit, it’s distracting to everyone else. Do that outside of the room.
- Don’t text during a class, even if you think you are being stealth, the instructor probably sees you doing it. This distracts the instructor, other students, and prevents you from working at full effort.
- In the locker room, don’t reserve mirror space unless you are ready to use it (there is a lady at my gym who will set up her entire beauty regiment-hair dryer, makeup, clothing-including her dirty gym clothes, etc in front of prime mirror space, then leaves it sitting there while she takes a 15 minute shower. It drives me bananas!)
I think that just about covers my list, did I miss anything? What is your biggest gym behavior pet-peeve?
