After my 50-mile bike ride last weekend I’m pumped to have another big ride coming up, the NYC Century! This will be my second time doing this ride. A couple of years ago I tackled the 100-mile course. I was very unprepared and it was a ROUGH day. This year I’ll most likely be doing the 55-miler:
55 mile – The Waterfront
This route increases the mileage, but with New York’s relatively flat terrain, it is a manageable route for a rider looking to challenge themselves. This route takes riders through waterfront views along the Brooklyn Greenway, including the majestic Verrazano Bridge and the famous amusements at Coney Island. The route eventually re-connects with the 35-mile route to the finish. Route begins in Central Park at 7 am or in Prospect Park at 7:30 am. Finish between 11 am and 4 pm.
The weather report currently calls for a sunny day with a high of 76 degrees. There is only a 10% chance of rain but I’m taking no chances this year and will be dressed ready for anything. When doing this race last time around, I thought it would be sunny and warm but instead it was freezing and rained for 6 hours and all I was wearing were shorts and a tank. This is the perfect opportunity to wear my Sugoi Versa Jacket– “The essential lightweight jacket for the weather conscious cyclist, quickly convertible into a vest with easily removable magnet-attached sleeves”
Anyone else doing the Century ride this year?
