A Day at the Gym: Review

August 2, 2012

Yesterday I went a little overboard with my workouts. Here’s a recap for you, including a new class review:

Wednesday 6:45am: Taught an Olympic-themed spin class at Equinox. Great class with lots of energy, even if they didn’t fully agree that my music related to the Olympics. Post-class: 10 minutes of abs work.

Wednesday 6:00pm: First time taking Titan Method Phantom at Equinox Columbus Circle, taught by Omar Sandoval. I didn’t know anything about this class but got to the gym early for my second spin class so figured I’d give it a go. Equinox describes the class as: “incorporates the TM training philosophy of five-minute training rounds, but is done completely with bodyweight. Titan Method Phantom drills are guaranteed to develop your muscular strength, endurance and cardio fitness!”

Class Review: The class was just 30 minutes which is pretty short, but given how quickly Omar moved through each exercise, it was plenty of time to break a sweat. The class essentially goes through a number of different moves (think push ups, burpees, squats, lunges, jumping jacks, high knees, etc), doing each move for between 1-2 minutes nonstop. After you finish the move there is ZERO break time, you immediately go on to the next move. Each move is fairly basic so Omar doesn’t waste your time explaining how to do a squat, he simply says “now start squats.” I love the quick-paced class. There is nothing I hate more than standing around the gym waiting for instruction. This class is go-go-go.  If you are familiar with basic workout moves, you can for sure do this class. If you are a newbie and don’t know the proper form for the moves I listed above, I would stay away from this class until you have a better idea of each move. The class goes too fast if you don’t know the basics. Would I take the class again? Absolutely!

Wednesday 6:45pm: Taught my second Olympic-themed spin class of the day. I switched up a few songs from the AM class and think I hit the Olympic-feel a little better this time around.

Wednesday 7:45pm: I was planning to  head home after spin but two of my friends were taking Scott Katzenstein’s MetCon3 class. You know how much I love MetCon3 so I just couldn’t walk away from it. My body was really tired by this point but I’m happy I stayed for the class and pushed through, it was one of my favorite routines.
