I owe ya’ll a review of UXF @ NYSC and here it is. I went through the full 4-week session, only missing one of the eight classes. My group was made up of only 3 students so it was nice if you’re looking for extra attention when you’re getting fit (but perhaps don’t want to spend the $$ on a personal trainer). This class is an extra fee, but far less than you’d pay for a personal trainer.
Each week the class became more challenging. As I mentioned in my first review, it seemed pretty tame, but as the weeks went on the routines got harder and more interesting. I will say, that even though it is a small group, you need to be personally motivated to work hard. While we did have an instructor there as a motivator, he did lose focus a few times in class so if you weren’t pushing yourself, no one else was going to be there to push you (there are many different instructors teaching these classes around the city so I can only comment on mine, I’m sure they are all different though). However, my instructor was good in terms of teaching correct form and coming up with unique routines each class.
Throughout the weeks I do feel that I got stronger and was able to push myself harder during certain exercises. I’ve also been able to take what I learned at UXF and use it in my everyday workouts, which is important to me since I like to keep my routines new and fresh.
So, do I recommend UXF and who should be doing it? I think the class is great for beginners, or people who workout and don’t really know what to do at the gym. The last session of the class for my group focused on dead lifts and seeing how much we could lift. Personally, this is not my thing. While I pride myself on being strong and fit, I don’t really care that I can lift more than my body weight (ok, it was kinda cool that I could do that) but more importantly, I felt nervous that I was going to hurt my back lifting so much weight. For some people, seeing how many pounds you can lift is an exciting part of working out, so if that’s YOU, you may enjoy that type of focus more than I did (the two men in my group seemed to really like it). All-in-all, I would say it was a good class that presented new challenges for everyone in the group. If you are nervous about working out in a group setting, you shouldn’t fear this class, everyone was able to go at their own pace and work up to their own threshold.
Have you taken UXF? What do you think of it?
