Spin Shoe Fail

June 27, 2012

I am very upset about a spin shoe incident that occurred this morning. Last night I went to a store in NYC that specializes in triathlon gear to buy clips for my new spin shoes and get them installed. They put them in for me and sent me on my way. This morning I taught a spin class and wore the shoes for the first time. After 10 seconds on the spin bike I could tell they did not install the clips correctly. My shoe came loose from the pedal but I also wasn’t able to unclip my foot. By twisting my foot a bunch I was able to get it free from the pedal. I spent class focusing way too much on making sure my foot didn’t come out of the clip, which would likely cause me to fall on the handle bars (that would be very embarrassing in front of my students!). After class this is what the bottom of my shoe looked like, NOT SAFE!

Thank goodness this took place on a stationary bike as opposed to my road bike. I almost went riding last night and I’m sure I would have had a nasty fall due to this messy installation. I’ll be heading back to the store tonight, will let you know how they deal with this.
