In my quest to guarantee a spot in the NYC 2013 Marathon, I’ve been working on the 9+1 program. This weekend got me 2 steps closer. On Saturday I volunteered at the Gay Pride Run through Central Park. If any Shapin’ Up followers were racing, I was the annoying girl at East 108th Street yelling at everyone to stay on the course. It felt good to volunteer but was a bit stressful trying to ensure the runners didn’t get hit by the bikers going by. Central Park gets very crowded during these races!
Sunday I ran my 7th NYRR race of the year, the Achilles Hope & Possibility 5-miler. This was an inspiring race, made up of “able-bodied and disabled athletes competing together, defining our limitless capacities.” The 5-mile course started at West 67th Street, looped up to 102nd and then back around. I completed the race is 40.47 (I think my fastest 5-miler, at an 8:10 pace). I’m still hunting down that sub 8-minute mile for one of these races! Perhaps at the Central Park Conservancy 4-miler on July 14th, who will be joining me?
