After much debate I decided to run the race with music, and I’m really happy I did. I ran the entire race solo, and while it’s fun to hear people cheering, there are many stretches of the race that are a bit quiet. My playlist kept me going, especially these favorites:
- Black Keys- Howlin’ For You: This was the first song I listened to as I crossed the Start line, really pumped me up and got me excited for the 13.1 ahead.
- Florence + The Machine- Shake it Out: This song came at the prefect time as I headed up the biggest hill in the race (Harlem Hill in Central Park) at about mile 3. The beat gave me that extra boost I needed.
- Carly Ray Jepson- Call me Maybe: The teeny-bopper in me loved this, just a fun song to bounce around to.
Pre-race I bought this HEX iPod Nano “watch”. It’s perfect for the race; I can have my music but don’t have to worry about dropping my ipod along the way.
