Last night I went to this studio for the first time. I’ve taken Bikram many times at a few different studios and have to say that this ranks as the worst one yet.
First of all, the room was over-packed to such an extent that the guy next to me was literally sweating on my mat. For some stretches he actually was ON my mat. I know that bikram is not for germaphobes but seriously, that was disgusting. There was also a stretch where the instructor told us to use the persons arms next to use to help us get a deeper stretch. Again, seriously disgusting. I don’t need some stranger’s massive amount of sweat on me.
Bikram is supposed to be 104 degrees and this room was not. At some points it was hot but at other points there was a cold breeze. If I’m going to Birkam, I want a good sweat, end of story (and while I may not have been sweating too much, the guy next to me seriously ranks as the sweatest person I’ve ever seen).
And lastly, the instructor (who also happens to own the studio) was horrible. I looked him up online this morning and apparently I’m not alone. The New York Post called him the “Yoga Nazi” and “The city’s meanest yoga instructor." If I want to get yelled at (I was never singled out, but many people were), I’d go to a boot camp class. Yoga is supposed to be relaxing. Not this class, I say skip it.
