Race Recap: The Day Before

July 20, 2010

Triathlon’s require a lot of preperation before race day.  Because you’re swimming, biking and running there is so much to remember to pack.  Here’s my complete list of race day items:

  • Tri Shorts
  • Tri Top
  • Wetsuit
  • Swim cap
  • Goggles and spare pair of goggles
  • Goggle de-fogging spray
  • Pam cooking spray (insider trick for wetsuit ease!)
  • Bike (dropped off the night before at the race site)
  • Bike race number
  • Helmet w/ race number attached
  • Sunglasses
  • Socks (2 pairs)
  • Giant water bottle to wash feet off with after swim
  • Bike shoes
  • 2 towels for transition set up
  • Biking gloves
  • Sports watch
  • Sports belt w/ race number
  • 3 gu packs for energy along the way
  • Running shoes
  • 2 water bottles

The days leading up to the race Kendre, my fellow racer, and I attended a briefing about the race and rules, dropped our bikes off at the transition area, took a tour of the transition zone so we’d be ready on race day and got body marked with our race numbers.

Our transition area

Looks like it would be chaotic, but was very well organized

Kendre getting body marked (race number on arm and hand, age on calf)

The funny sign at my bike rack area. Everyone involved in the race really made the day about having fun and enjoying yourself, which really cut back on race-day stress

After all the prep was done, I had a healthy pre-race meal consisting of grilled chicken and steamed broccoli (and LOTS of water all week) and then tried to get to bed early.

Check back soon for the race morning recap!
