As planned, I got out of bed and hit the road by 6:15AM. I headed up to Central Park via 5th avenue which wasn’t bad since no one was awake yet. Took two loops around the park and was only discouraged by comparing myself to the hundreds of other cyclists buzzing past me. My bike might as well have been pink with streamers coming off the handle bars when you look at my ride next to the “true cyclists." Sort of makes me want to invest in a legit bike for the race (but unlikely). With all the hills in the park I can see why cycling shoes and clips would be helpful. Could have spent more time in the park but had to ride home to get ready for work. Although it was a brisk morning (frozen hands by the end!) it was enjoyable and I’d do it again. The toughest part was navigating a way home since by 7:45am the streets are beginning to get crowded. The hour and half ride burned 490 calories. Will have to make this a part of my regular schedule in order to get ready for the race!
