Whole30 Halfway Point!

September 16, 2014

Hey friends, have you been following along with my Whole30 adventures? If you have, you know that today marks the halfway point! Making some serious progress here (I think?) and feeling good.

I’ve cut out dairy, grains, legumes, sugar, artificial sweeteners and alcohol. Man that’s quite a list. Some people go on Whole30 and feel drastic changes because they are intolerant or unable to digest certain things and have no idea until they eliminate them from their diet. I don’t have these issues so going on Whole30 hasn’t made me realize crazy things about my eating habits, but I do feel good. I think my energy levels are up and I’m not having intense sugar cravings (love me some gummies but not thinking about them as much I normally do).

A few things i’ve learned in the first 15 days:

  • If you cook your own meals, you can make really amazing Whole30 compliant dishes and don’t feel deprived
  • Planning ahead is key
  • A properly stocked fridge and pantry with complaint foods is a must
  • Eating out can be hard but not impossible, ask questions!
  • Selzer is a good beverage to take your mind off other beverages (miss you vino)
  • People will think you are crazy, it’s ok
  • Other people will be inspired and try Whole30 with you!
  • There is never a perfect time to change your habits and sometimes you just gotta go for it and jump in.

If you’re considering Whole30 do yourself a favor and read It Starts With Food. It will either make you definitely want to try the eating plan or not. It’s an all-in or all-out lifestyle change for 30 days so you really need to be committed and the book gives reasoning behind the guidelines.

If you have questions or want to know more about Whole30, let me know!
