Today I’m introducing our second Shapin’ Up Fitness Spotlight feature, Kayla of Kayla In The City, a super cute blog covering her fit adventures in NYC. She says she has workout ADD which is great for us, we can hear about all the latest and greatest workouts about town, including trapeze! Definitely on my to-do list. Read on to hear what Kayla has to say.
Favorite way to stay fit: I like to do it all– HIIT, strength training, cardio dance, spinning, running, yoga and of course flying trapeze. I’m pretty sure I have workout ADD because I can’t seem to stick to one thing.
Why you workout: I’ve always been super active thanks to growing up as a dancer, but didn’t start going to the gym until my sophomore year of college. It was a super stressful year of school and going to the gym became my way to get away from it all. Once I started working out on a daily basis I was surprised at how much better I felt– a lot more calm, less anxious and less stressed. For me, working out has been a huge way to keep anxiety at bay. Without fail I always feel better after a good sweat session.
Favorite fitness gear brand or product: I’m OBSESSED with my Asics Gel Nimbus sneakers. They’ve been my go to shoes for about 5+ years now– they’re super comfortable and the perfect all-in-one sneaker to wear to the gym.
Biggest fitness or health accomplishment: Running 2 half marathons! I’ve never been much of an athlete and used to literally walk the mile run in gym class. I started small, training for a 5K and worked my way up to a half marathon. Crossing that finish line was the most amazing feeling in the world– I felt unstoppable.
Next fitness or health goal: My biggest goal is to do 3 pull-ups so I can start flying out of lines at trapeze. After that, run my first (and probably only…) full marathon in Fall 2015!
Health/fitness advice to share with readers: Don’t think of working out as something you have to do, then it will feel like a drag in the same way doing laundry sucks. Instead starting thinking about how you get to work out– it should feel like a treat because it’s time that you are taking for yourself and for your own health.
