Paros, a more off-the-beaten path island to explore.
When planning our trip to Greece, Santorini was a given. What was not so clear was what our second island would be. We researched the most popular islands and each one looked amazing; it was so hard to narrow it down. Eventually we landed on Paros, choosing it because of it’s close proximity to Santorini (2 hour high speed ferry ride), the availability of Airbnbs (there were lots and they were affordable) and because the island has an airport that would make it easy to get home.
Let me just tell you, choosing Paros was the best decision. Everyone immediately fell in love with the island. It’s super laid back and the perfect contrast to touristy and bustling Santorini.

Where to Stay
We chose this Airbnb and it was perfect for our group. It’s part of a small apartment complex and has a pool and tennis courts, both which we made use of. This apartment is ideal for two couples. Our host was so helpful, arranging our restaurant reservations, picking us up from the ferry, arranging our rental car and even bringing us freshly picked fruit throughout our stay. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place stay in Paros.
Where to Eat
Ouzeri Ton Naftikon, Tsachpinis: This meal was so fun. We sat outside, ordered tons of delicious food and enjoyed the scenery. Excellent atmosphere, excellent food. This place is a must. Make reservations in advance if you can.
Si Paros: If you want a romantic sunset view during dinner, this is your spot. Get a table by the window and watch the sun set along the water. Be warned the food is a bit pricey. It’s good, though not the absolute best food we had and way more expensive, BUT for the views it’s still worth it.
Trata Tavern: We loved this place! It feels super local, the food is amazing and very well priced. You feel like you’re eating in a Greek Grandma’s kitchen. The dessert (on the house) was so delicious and is a homemade secret recipe.
Steak House: For a quick lunch right on the water, head to Steak House. Amazing gyros and other Greek dishes for super cheap.
What to See & Do
Explore the small beaches: The beaches in Paros are incredible. The main ones can be crowded, so instead seek out these smaller and more intimate spots. We also found that in the summer since it stays hot and light late, you can go to the beach around 4pm and still have plenty of time to relax without dealing with crowds.
- Kolimbithres: This beach is made up of interesting rock formations. There are main areas to the beach where you can rent a chair and umbrella, or just walk along the rocks and find your own private alcove to hang in (my reco).
- Kalogeros Beach: This red rock beach is perfect for laying out, or find some of the clay and make a mud mask. Be warned, when ships/ferries go by (even very far out), little waves are created and basically take over the beach. Make sure to keep your belongings far from the water.
Stroll through the towns: Head to the town of Noussa and Parikia for cute shops and pretty streets.
Relax: As I write this guide, I realize we didn’t do too much. Which was perfect! Paros is the ideal island for chilling out.
Things to Know About Paros
- There are a lot of spots to explore and you’ll need a car. We drove everywhere and I wouldn’t want to depend on taxis or public transportation on this island.
- On that same note, hopefully there is a good driver in your group because the roads are rocky and you may end up off the beaten path.
- They use the euro and it’s good to keep some cash on hand, even though most places accept credit card.
- The island is small but fairly spread out. When selecting a hotel or Airbnb, map it to the towns and beaches you want to explore to ensure it’s accessible.

If you’re planning a trip to the Greek Islands, I highly recommend what we did–3 days in Santorini followed by 3 days in Paros. I know there are so many more islands to explore and hopefully I’ll get back there one day.
Have you been to the Greek islands and if so, which island was your favorite?
